Nitrogen Now Program
The U.S. military, NASA, Indy Car and NASCAR have all been using nitrogen in their tires to improve safety and performance for many years. This advanced techn
ology, which is also used by the space shuttle, B2 Bomber, and Boeing Aircraft, has now become available to
Tires lose air pressure naturally through the process of permeation. With weather changes, compressed air filled tires are more likely to lose tire pressure and corrosion is accelerated. Nitrogen is an “inert gas” which does not have the same reaction as compressed air with various changing elements, thus reducing corrosion. Because of nitrogen’s larger molecular size, nitrogen migrates through a tire approximately 2 times slower than oxygen. A tire filled with ordinary compressed air will lose 1 to 2 pounds of pressure in less than a month. With nitrogen, it could take up to 2 months or longer consumers.
